Our partnership with Greenfleet: Carbon Neutral Hosting

Serversaurus has partnered with Greenfleet since 2007, funding native forest restoration across Australia and New Zealand to offset the carbon generated by our hosting infrastructure. This partnership goes beyond a simple donation, with real trees planted and real forests protected every year. For our clients, it means choosing a hosting provider that treats sustainability as an ongoing responsibility rather than a marketing claim.

Carbon neutral hosting is a promise many providers make, but few take the extra step of showing what actually stands behind it. Every website you visit runs on a server somewhere, and every server needs power to stay online. Data centres now account for a growing share of global emissions, yet it's a cost most businesses never think about when they choose a website host. As more of daily life moves onto the internet, that hidden footprint keeps growing.

Serversaurus has spent almost two decades trying to change that. In 2007 we became the first Australian web hosting provider to fully offset our carbon emissions, and one of the ways we do this is through our long standing partnership with Greenfleet.

Who is Greenfleet?

Greenfleet is an environmental not-for-profit organisation that has spent close to 30 years planting native forests across Australia and New Zealand. Rather than simply calculating emissions on paper, Greenfleet plants real biodiverse forests on real land, forests that continue capturing carbon for decades after they go into the ground.

To date, Greenfleet has helped plant more than 11 million native trees, creating hundreds of legally protected forests and restoring thousands of hectares of habitat for native wildlife, including koalas and other threatened species. It's the kind of long term, on the ground climate action that goes well beyond a simple offset certificate.

Our history with Greenfleet

Serversaurus began working with Greenfleet in 2007, the same year we became carbon neutral, and the relationship has continued every year since. Interestingly, one of our own team members had already started supporting Greenfleet personally in the years before, before it became part of how we run our business. Each year we contribute toward new native forests being planted on our behalf, turning the emissions generated by our servers into new trees growing in the ground.

Our team recently participated in a tree planting day at a Greenfleet site to see the forest firsthand, walking through land that was little more than bare paddock only a few years earlier. Seeing that kind of growth in-person is a good reminder that this partnership produces something real, rather than existing only as a line on a sustainability report.

Why this matters for your website

Choosing a host that takes climate action seriously means every website built with us carries that same commitment forward. It also shapes how we build our services day to day. Our high performance web hosting is engineered to use resources efficiently rather than wastefully, and our WordPress management service includes setting up caching, so pages aren't needlessly rebuilt from scratch every time someone visits.

None of this asks anything extra of our clients. You get a fast, reliable website, built on infrastructure that's efficient by design, while the carbon cost of running it is already being offset through projects like our partnership with Greenfleet. For businesses that care about their own environmental impact, that means the website sitting behind their brand is quietly pulling its weight too.

A partnership we plan to keep growing

Serversaurus has been offsetting emissions and supporting native forest restoration since 2007, and we don't see that changing anytime soon. Being a genuinely green host has never been a marketing angle for us. It's simply part of how we've always operated.
