This post is part of a series of Internet Excavations which spotlight the origins of some of our server names, all of which are inspired by famous dinosaurs throughout history.

Server spotlight: Archie

Archie was assigned as the hostname for one of our Performance hosting servers. Our Performance hosting servers are designed for high traffic, demanding web applications, and Archie surely looks like he could handle almost anything- including a meteor shower, which is why Archie was the perfect tribute for one of our performance-optimised servers.

Archie was inspired from a satirical comic Dinosaurs for Hire written by American writer Tom Mason in 1988. The main protagonist was Archie, a Tyrannosaurus with costume design that was heavily influenced by the Terminator, as seen in James Cameron’s hit film “The Terminator” released in 1984 featuring the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger.
